Merry Christmas!

Hello everyone!  Can you believe it... Christmas is just a few days away!   Today I have a project to share that I have been thinking about making since the new Slimline Tallest Tree die and the Mini Slimline Tall Trees dies landed on my desk.   I also used the super cute Sam E. Snowman die set and the Headline Numbers die set.  I had a lot of fun making this project and I hope you like it.

When the Slimline Tallest Tree and Mini Slimline Tall Trees dies arrived I looked at them and thought they would be perfect for a mixed media project.  I had seen alot of people creating with the limited edition holiday crackle and grit paste combo from Tim Holtz.  I was able to get two sets and boy am I glad I did because I love the Snowfall grit paste!  It is so. much. FUN!   My first outing with the crackle and grit paste was to create this card.  For that card I used some Tim Holtz Christmas patterned paper that I have had for a long time.  I really like this paper, but sadly most of it is now used up!  For this project I also purchased the limited edition holiday Tim Holtz mica sprays along with some distress stains.   I don't have photos showing how I did all the steps as this was my first real mixed media type project and I was working things out as I went along.

I started by creating the piece that I would die cut my trees from.  I used watercolor paper and just starting adding the mica sprays, distress stains and water until I got the color I was happy with.  I let the piece dry and then die cut the trees.  Sam was die cut from some of that patterned paper that I used to make the card.  I die cut the main part of Sam several times and adhered them together.  I wanted Sam to look like he was trying to place a star on top of the smaller tree so I adhered his nose and arms like he was turned to the side, if that makes sense.   Once I had all the main pieces ready to go I painted the frame (from Tim Holtz/Ideaology) and adhered the patterned paper to the back piece.  Once the frame was dry I adhered it to the back panel.  The I got to the fun part... adding the crackle paste and grit paste to everything!  I added the crackle paste to the patterned paper in the frame.  You can't see any crackling because I decided to drench it with Rock Candy glitter!   I added liberal amounts of grit paste to all the trees and some of that Rock Candy glitter.   Some grit paste was even added to Sam's hat, as well as the fun tinsel trim scarf.

Once everything was dry I started putting my mixed media piece together.  I adhered most of the trees with foam tape.  The tree in the back was adhered flat to the project.  With the trees in place I added Sam and his little glitter star.   Along time ago I purchased a package of Ideaology baubles.  At the time I bought them I didn't know what I would do with them, but I knew eventually I would come up with and idea!  I added more of the grit paste all around Sam and then began adding the baubles.  Did I got a little overboard?  Not sure... you tell me, lol!  I even added some of the grit paste up in the corners along with more baubles.  I wish I could have captured just how glittery this project is!  I finished off the piece by die cutting the 25 from patterned paper using the Headline number dies.  I adhred them with foam tape and then added a frosting of grit paste.  The finishing touch were the sparkly silver stars on each tree.  Finally I was done!
