Woodsy Masculine Birthday Card

Hello! Lisa Hoel here with a guest post and happy new year wishes for you! I hope that 2016 is full of creativity and inspiration for you. I know that for many people, masculine birthday cards can be a real stumper. I'm here to show you that with a little "woodsy" help from AJVD products, it's as easy as pie. So get your plaid on and take a look:

The starting point for my inspiration for this card was the deer image from The Graphics Fairy. This is a great resource full of free vintage images available for download. You can find the image I used HERE. The plaid paper is from the Tim Holtz 8x8 inch Yuletide paper pad. I love the "cabin in the woods" feel it gives the card. The tree background panel was stamped using a "watercolor" stamping technique. I inked one of the tree stamps from the Pine Trees set using Distress Ink (which is reactive with water). Then I lightly misted the inked stamp with water (experiment to find the right amount.) Stamp as usual and the ink will smoosh around and give you a watercolor look. Practice first. Too much water will obliterate the design. Try inking your stamp with two or more colors before spritzing. The colors will blend beautifully!

The branches and pine cone I stamped with Archival ink for a crisp image and then trimmed them out. The Pine Branches set comes with two different styles of pine cone and shadow stamp layers so you can make two-toned pine cones which I think is a really nice look.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great rest of the weekend.
