sending a hug in a mug...

Hello and happy Wednesday everyone!  Rosemary here with a fun encouragement card.  I used the cute Hug in A Mug stamp set along with the Diagonal Stripes cover plate die and one of my favorite A Jillian Vance Design die sets:  Minnie Pearl Tag die set.

The idea for this card actually started with the card I made last week (found here).  After I had used the die to cut the light blue cardstock I had the little stripes left over and that got me thinking about how I could use the light blue stripes.  I decided to use the Diagonal Stripes cover plate die to die cut white cardstock and then inlay the light blue stripes.  I did do that, but when I moved on to another step in my cardmaking process I actually ruined the entire piece.  So I had to start over and this time I decided to use a light aqua blue cardstock instead of the light blue.  In the photo the stripes do look like they are light blue, but they are in fact an aqua color.   Once I had the new die cut made I die cut some thin white cardstock using the largest Stitched Dot rectangle die and then adhered it to the back of the Diagonal Stripes piece using Just Glue It adhesive.  I then applied glue to the interiors of the stripes and added in the aqua pieces.  Once that was done and the piece mostly dry I die cut the panel with the largest tag from the Minnie Pearl Tag die set.  The resulting tag will be used on another project at a later date!  I then die cut an additional tag from white cardstock and several more from white scrap cardstock and inlaid everything into the opening.    I then stamped the mug and butterfly (twice) on white cardstock and did some simple coloring with my Copic markers in shades of light blue and aqua.  Once everything was colored I fussy cut everything out.  The sentiment was created using the Hug in a Mug and Sending Happy Mail stamp sets.  I had to do some creative stamping in order to make up the 'a hug in a mug' portion of the sentiment.   I die cut a banner from white cardstock and then I figured out where I wanted the sentiment to be, stamped the hug in a mug portion, moved the sentiment over to place the 'a' from the sentiment at the beginning, masked off the rest of the sentiment, inked up the 'a', removed the masks and then stamped it.  I die cut the banner down a little bit to make it fit the card front better.  The 'sending' was stamped at the top of the tag.  I then arranged the mug and butterflies on the tag and card front.  I finished with a little bit of light aqua ribbon that I tied in a simple knot and adhered to the tag with Just Glue It adhesive.
