Mermaid Birthday Card

Hello, Lisa Hoel here and I have a by the sea birthday card to share with you today. My sister-in-law loves mermaids so I often make her a mermaid themed card for her birthday. I was looking at the new Fringe Flower dies and I thought they could also look like anemones or some other sea life. Ah ha! Inspiration struck. I also thought the top of the Towering Tree looked like coral. You can get more use out of your dies by thinking out of the box. ;-)

I also wanted to play more with my new Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink Pads. They are lots of fun and I used them to create the background behind the Quatrefoil Cover Plate.

You could use the same technique with regular Distress Ink Pads and it would look great too. Oxide inks are more opaque and get a more milky look when they react with water. I smooshed the Broken China, Faded Jeans and Cracked Pistachio pads onto my craft sheet, misted with water, and then dragged my background paper through the ink. I kept layering the ink by pressing it into the ink puddles on the sheet, drying in between layers. I also flicked drops of water onto the paper for more reaction.
