Vintage Valentine & Tutorial

Hello, Lisa Hoel here today with a guest spot. Today I'm going to show you a way to stretch your dies and use them to make stamps! I promise, it is really easy. All you need is adhesive backed fun foam and scrap packaging plastic. First, the finished card:

Lisa Hoel for A Jillian Vance Design - Valentine's Day Card

The border around the heart is actually stamped, using the Stitched Fringe die to create the foam stamp. I printed out a copy of my graphic and the heart outline to use as a guide. The base for the stamp is clear plastic cut from some old packaging. After cutting a fringe strip out of the foam, I used my guide to position the foam and adhere it to the plastic base. A little trimming and adjusting was needed to get it all in place. (I ended up using three fringe strips.)

Now I needed my card base to stamp on. I wanted a subtle cloud pattern in the background. Cutting a stencil out of scrap cardstock, I put the edge under my Core'dinations cardstock and sanded it with my distressing block. The bump of the cardstock made the cloud pattern show as I sanded off the surface of the paper. Using thin chipboard as a stencil would have made a stronger impression.

Later on, I decided the cloud pattern wasn't showing up quite enough so I used my same stencil on the front side and blended a touch of Distress ink on the edges to make the clouds pop more.

Then I was ready to stamp! I used a juicy pigment ink pad so the color would be more opaque. (Paint works well on foam stamps too!)

After laying the foam stamp in place on my background, I carefully placed a large acrylic stamp block over the whole thing so I could press down and stamp with even pressure.

I stamped my sentiment on my graphic printout, cut out the heart and adhered it to the card base with 3D foam squares. The retro cupid image is from The Graphics Fairy, available for free download.

I hope you are inspired to think of new ways to use your dies. The possibilities are endless if make them into stamps too!

With Sympathy

Saturday is the memorial service for my dad who passed away on January 18th.
He was the best father/grandfather in the whole world.  He was so creative and could built or fix anything!
He was a dairy farmer who farmed over 500 acres on the family farm as well as owning a sawmill.  He was such a hard worker which Jillian and I carry on those traits today!
I was so blessed to be his daughter.
There have been several area farmers and friends in our community who have passed recently.   God much have some awesome farm in heaven!!!
Then God made a Farmer . . .

Jillian and I decided to do a memorial card for dad rather than have the funeral home print them ~ he was a special guy and needed special treatment!  His features the Tranquil Tree Die and the red bird die cut from the Frosty Die Set.

So I took that design and I decided to create a quick but elegant card, that you can produce several at one time, to send to the hurting.  I have been so lax at sending out sympathy cards and only leaving words on the funeral home websites.  But the many, many cards I have received this past week are so comforting to me.  Saturday will be a very hard day on all of us as we celebrate his life. He lived a good and godly 88 years and we know he is in a glorious place, free from pain and suffering ~ and probably building something for someone!

Guest Designer: Rosemary Dennis

Hello friends!!  Rosemary here with another card to share.  I am so enjoying my time as a guest designer for A Jillian Vance Design!   I made another masculine card using the Simply Said:  Anchor set.  This time I switched things up by using one of the secondary sentiments on the front of the card and the main image on the inside.  Here is my card:

I used some patterned paper with a map theme.  The flip side of the paper has a nice grid pattern.  I roughed up the edges of the paper and then matted it with some kraft cardstock.  I stamped the compass image on kraft, punched it out and then added a brass colored brad.  The sentiment was stamped on a strip of the grid patterned and adhered.  Added the compass image and a few more brass colored brads.

For the interior I added to strips of the grid patterned paper and then stamped the main image in the center using grey ink.  Simple, but perfect for a guy!

Guest Designer Annette Allen

Good Morning everyone.
Annette Allen here with you again today for another Guest Design Post.
Today I am sharing a fun card Stitched with LOVE.

First I die cut the Needle & Thread Die set... which I might add is too fun.
Then adding some natural twine and adding a cute Black Pear Pin.

I colored the clothes cushion from I'll Be Darned Stamp Set to make the background paper. I wanted the images all to pop so I added some foam adhesives. I chose a sentiment from Sew Special.
