Paper Dolls Guest Designers ~ July 25th, 2011

I am Bunny, Jillian ~ The Princess and the Paper’s Mom.  I have always loved crafting from a young age, my love is sewing, I own two embroidery machines, a regular sewing machine (Jillian’s) and a serger!  I love making purses.

So when Jillian approached me that she wanted a business to buy an iPod, I bought her a Cricut to make cards with as my cousin had one and loved it.  Well, should have purchased the iPod ~ LOL!  Now we have thousands invested in our new craft and hobby!  In addition to her card business which was thriving, she needed sentiments she couldn’t find so she decided to create her own line of stamps this past January at age 11!  So the rest is history!

She now owns A Jillian Vance Design and I am her business manager!  We just returned from CHA and it was so fun having people come up to me and ask if I was Jillian’s mom.  And I introduced myself, Bunny Vance, to Jinger Adams and she said “Oh, you must be Jillian’s mom, I keep an eye on her on Facebook!”  Oh my land, Jillian at 12 years old is famous!
So we are thrilled to be Guest Designers for Paper Dolls:  See their Blog here: http://paperdollsblog.typepad.com/main/  Tamara's Blog here: http://happylifecraftywife.typepad.com and Thienly's Blog here:  http://modpaperie.blogspot.com/.  We look up to these two fantastically creative gals and then to have THEM ask US ~ Wow!  What a great feeling!  We waited til after CHA to do this project but we had in mind what we wanted to do before we left home.  The theme for our county   4-H booth is “4-H, It’s a Green Thing”.  So we will be adding this to our booth at the fair so we decided a Topiary out of recycled Kraft paper was in order!!!

Jillian and I made this a team project!  We have cut the wonderful SVG files out of Kraft paper at various sizes:  3.75 and 4.75 inches for the scalloped edge flower
3.0 and 3.5 inches for the carnation
2.5 and 3.75 inches for the smooth edge flower
We wanted a mixture of larger and smaller flowers.

Then Jillian used Tim Holtz Distress Inks to ink them to the colors we wanted: the Golden ones are Spice Marmalade, Pink ones are the NEW Distress Stain in Picket Fence (it is a pigment based stain and is more opaque to give you a brighter color) under Worn Lipstick and the Purple flowers are Distress Stain in Picket Fence with Dusty Concord on top.  Jillian used Forest Moss Distress Stain for the leaves!  So wish we had the other colors in Stain, it is so quick to apply! Gives them all a very vintage shaded look!  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new Picket Fence Distress Stain!

Then we used corsage pins with tear drop pearls to pin through the base of the flower and leaf (cut from a random cartridge) added some hand dyed by Jillian seam binding to give the softness and flair it needed!  By accident, I wound the ribbon around a Jelly Roll pen to dry it as otherwise I burn my fingers!  That is what gave it the bouncy curly look! The butterfly was cut from Home Accents Cricut cartridge and of course “everything is better with Stickles!!!” according to Jillian.  The tin bucket came from IKEA.
